The pick — Rangers OVER 3.5 goals at Capitals (+110, BetMGM)
At this point in the young NHL season, the Rangers were expected to be one of the better teams in the Eastern Conference. The Capitals, who squeaked into the postseason and were swept by New York last April, weren’t expected to be off to such a great start.
A weird statistic has me believing the Rangers will light the lamp a bunch Tuesday in the nation’s capital.
New York has hit the over on the proposed number in each of its four road games, having tallied six, five, four and seven goals away from home. Washington has been stingy at Capital One Arena, but the Rangers rank No. 1 in the league in xGoals (61.15%) in all situations this season. They’re also first in expected goal differential at 13.71.
I expect New York to cover the puck line of -1.5 (+165), and I’m taking the Rangers at +105 to win in 60 minutes as all of their victories have come in regulation.
Covering all the bases should lead to a big payday after the boys from the Big Apple leave D.C. with a W.
