The Pick: James Cook OVER 2.5 receptions at Texans (+130, BetMGM)
Yes, CHEF!
Channel your favorite character from the FX banger ‘The Bear,’ grab the necessary ingredients, stir up the flavorful concoction, pop it into the oven for one hour at 350 degrees and … BANG! A tasty plus money prop appears.
Cut. Serve. And consume.
The Chef Boyardee of backs is an underrated pass catcher.
Though he’s enticed just over seven percent of the team’s target share, he’s trotted out on a route over 44% of the time this season. Showing sticky fingers when thrown to, Cook has impressively caught 91.3% of his intended looks.
After a three-game receiving lull midseason, he’s again become a featured player as a dump-off weapon. In total, he’s reeled in eight grabs in his past two contests. Expect his active role as a pass catcher to continue.
Given Houston’s largely impenetrable defensive front, it’s plausible offensive coordinator Joe Brady designs simple flares for his tacky-handed back to work as a run extension. Other teams have employed a similar tactic. This season, the Texans have allowed 4.2 receptions per game to backs. Overall, six have snagged three or more passes against them.
Without a bevy of reliable receivers on roster and likely down Dalton Kincaid again sidelined due to a tender hammy, Cook should lure 3-5 targets in the short field.
Sink your teeth given the potential sweet return.
