Primetime NFL games bring in the numbers -- and the bets. In an attempt to boost gamer bankrolls, this only occasionally profitable bettor will attempt to stack greenbacks under the lights. As always, fade or follow -- that’s up to you.
The Pick: Jahan Dotson OVER 5.5 receiving yards vs. Lions (-115, BetMGM)
From specific stats to the league names themselves, acronyms are everywhere across the world of sports.
Taking a page from the short-handed playbook, yours truly -- a fancier of nicknames for various people, events and data categories -- attempts to cleverly spin new ones in the hope they catch on within the gaming lexicon.
The latest: OCC. Turn up the Naughty By Nature classic in the background.
For those who don’t speak the language, it stands for One Catch Cash.
If you're a member of Team Instant Gratification, it can happen almost instantaneously. In other instances, it -- despite your yelling-at-the-screen demands -- can never materialize.
Sunday night in Philly, all we need is one grab/stab/snare from a player this sicko gambler wagers on continuously in the category given the seemingly easy reachable threshold.
Please, throw the damn rock accurately in No. 2’s direction, Mr. Hurts.
Dwarfed by A.J. Brown, DeVonta Smith and Dallas Goedert in a Philadelphia offense predicated on pounding the pill, Dotson rarely lures camera operators’ attention. Though he’s averaged a sizable 23.6 routes run per game, he’s attracted only 1.7 targets per contest. Catchless in two of his last three games, he’s largely remained in cold storage. Still, cashing the OVER on the necessary number in five of nine games and averaging 18.9 yards per reception this season, all we need is one connection -- just one.
Yep, an OCC.
A matchup versus Detroit is sure to stoke the sweat. The Lions enter the week No. 11 in dropback EPA defense, surrendering the eighth-fewest receptions and 13th-fewest yards to wide receivers. However, exactly 30 WRs have hauled a minimum of six yards against them. Most encouraging, Dotson’s primary projected assignment, slot corner Arthur Maulet, has allowed a 78.6 catch% and 11.3 yards per reception this season.
Admittedly, this wager is the definition of “complete crapshoot,” but the quite manageable requirement is too irresistible.
Ya, you know me.
NO CONTEXT PARLAY PLAY: SGP - Jameson Williams 15+ yards catch, Brock Wright 2+ receptions, David Montgomery 1+ reception, Saquon Barkley 71.5u rush yards (+261, ESPN Bet)
