Rule changes are an inevitable evolution in any sport. Heck, back in the leather helmet days of the NFL, even the forward pass was once deemed illegal.
Imagine if that still existed today. Will Levis would probably be viewed as a competent quarterback. Then again …
In the modern game, one particular play has increased dissent among mic mouthpieces — Philadelphia’s Brotherly Shove. For now, it’s completely permissible and in accordance with the league’s governing body, but anti-shovers demand that it gets abolished.
Consider it a simple case of envy.
Fans who despise the play need to bury their bias, place a related bet and reap the benefit.
With his lower body healed and well-rested, Hurts is set to spin his legs early and often. Cue the Mellencamp.
In the regular season, no passer called his own number more inside the red zone (53 times) than the Eagles quarterback. Overall, he has averaged 9.6 attempts and 41.8 rushing yards per game and scored 18 rushing touchdowns in 18 total contests. Most importantly, he’s crossed both thresholds in the same game nine times.
Even more encouraging is Kansas City’s unimpressive No. 26 standing in rush EPA defense over the last five weeks. And in the regular season, the Chiefs surrendered the seventh-most rushing yards and four rushing touchdowns to QBs.
It’s doubtful Hurts duplicates the explosive 70 rushing yards and three ground scores he registered against K.C. in Super Bowl LVII. However, on what should be 8-12 carries, he will burrow his way for six and easily scoot past 25 rushing yards.
Stand down, haters.
