Thanks to the influx of extraordinary young talent, the popularity of the WNBA is blowing up. Unsurprisingly, the betting markets are too. Showing respect to the wonderful women’s game, this gambler will occasionally dip his toe in the WNBA wagering waters.

The pick — Two-leg: Caitlin Clark 6+ assists, Angel Reese 12+ rebounds (+144, FanDuel)

Call it the mortal enemy parlay play.

Whether you believe the heavy drama is undeniably real or manufactured for promotional purposes, the rivalry between Caitlin Clark and Angel Reese has become one of the nastiest in all of professional sports.

Years from now when the sun sets on their careers, the intensity from their classic showdowns is sure to resonate. It also will be viewed as one of the most influential catalysts for the rise in the WNBA’s popularity.

Clark and Reese are not scheduled for another back-alley brawl until August 30 in Chicago. However, with both rookie stars on this bettor’s Sunday card in their respective matchups, how will the combative duo potentially boost the bankroll?

Here’s a breakdown of legs.

Caitlin Clark 6+ assists at Mercury. Her teammates may suffer from a devastating case of butter fingers, but assuming the stick ‘em is applied, Clark is likely to dish out at least six dimes. Indiana and Phoenix have been all about uptempo play of late, as both teams rank inside the top six in pace over their last three games. Most importantly, the Mercury rank bottom-five in assists per game allowed (21.5). The W’s marquee attraction has recorded at least six assists in 15 of 19 games this year, averaging 6.6 per contest. In her first encounter against a Phoenix team with the fifth-worst defensive rating (102.5 points per 100 possessions), Clark pays off running the point.

Angel Reese 12+ rebounds vs. Lynx. Getting after it on the glass has been the calling card — and consistently a profitable one for betting backers — of the rookie sensation from LSU. Chipping away at Clark’s widely believed insurmountable Rookie of the Year award lead, Reese has hauled in at least 12 boards in four of her last five games. She’s yet to cross paths with Minnesota, but in her first encounter with the Lynx, another robust rebounding performance is likely. This season, Minnesota is rock bottom in board per game allowed, giving up a generous 36.5 per game. A dozen orange squeezes feel inevitable for the Queen of Controversy.

WNBA season record: 10-7, +4.51 units
