Thanks to the influx of extraordinary young talent, the popularity of the WNBA is blowing up. Unsurprisingly, the betting markets are too. Showing respect to the wonderful women’s game, this gambler will occasionally dip his toe in the WNBA wagering waters.

The pick — Kayla McBride OVER 3.5 assists vs. Wings (+120, FanDuel)

Sometimes you glance at a player prop with its quite favorable juice, and your eyebrows inquisitively furrow. It’s an almost unconscious reaction. The numbers-familiar creature dwelling deep inside your brain is dancing a jig. You whisper to yourself, “Is that line for real?”

Oh, it’s real. And it’s spectacular.

That was this bettor’s immediate response when researching McBride on assists. The Minnesota guard has cashed the over on 3.5 dimes in eight of 13 games this season. For the third-grade educated mathematicians in the room, that’s a hit rate of 61.5%. One of those OVER prevails came, coincidentally enough, against the Wings at home on June 2 when she dished out four assists.

No team in the WNBA has surrendered more assists than Dallas, who clearly don’t specialize in clogging the passing lanes. This year, the Wings have yielded a league-worst 21.9 dimes per game. They also rank second-to-last in defensive rating at 104.2 points per 100 possessions.

Thanks to Courtney Williams (5.7 per game) and McBride (3.7), the Lynx are No. 1 in assists percentage in the W at 78.6%. When it comes to ball movement and buckets, they generally flourish.

Cash once again, Kayla.
